Adoption Facilitator
An adoption facilitator is neither a licensed attorney nor adoption agency. However, adoption facilitators often help match prospective parents with a birth mother looking to place. Often, these individuals are not paid for this "service" but there are a few exceptions in states that have not made it illegal to do so without attention to the state laws for facilitating adoption. Generally speaking, though, facilitated placements occur more quickly than those handled by ........
Because facilitators are not licensed, birth mothers and prospective parents shouldn't hesitate to ask a potential facilitator questions about his or her experience with adoption placements or do some independent research of their own. The Better Business Bureau should have a profile for facilitators who have been in the business for a while. Also, using facilitators that other members of the adoption community may suggest is also a good resource for trusted references.
