The Life Story
Every individual is entitled to his or her own history. It is difficult to grow up to be a psychologically-healthy adult without having had to one's own history. Traditionally, the family is the repository of knowledge about the child. Children separated from their families of origin do not have...
LifeBooks: Every Adopted Child Needs One
Information is gold when you are adopted. Every tiny piece is precious, whether it's a photo or quote from the orphanage staff. LifeBooks help put all the information pieces together in a way that helps your child make sense of, and ultimately feel good, about his/her history. People often ask... My Musings
Becoming an adoptive parent encourages thoughts about issues that never previously entered my awareness. Becoming an adoptive parent of a challenging child presents learning opportunities you never before considered. Here are just a few of my musings… Why is grief and loss seldom talked... Things Everyone Told Me
As I traveled the first part of my adoption journey, everyone (friends, family, neighbors, and store clerks) had things to share with me. Some were said with a smile, some in a whisper, and some with raised eyebrows. Some people shared their love and concern for me, some shared a misunderstanding...

It is SO frustrating to be my daughter's mom for nine, count 'em nine, years, and she STILL won't come to me with a problem. We reached the end of the road with my seventeen-year-old son who will not do his school work. We've tried peanut butter sandwiches instead of yummy food until his work is turned in. We even tried charging him $50 per missing assignment out of his part-time job paycheck. He cried when he had to...

So after a lot of drama, she was a no-show. I am convinced she would have missed the EI assessment if it was not for them calling her from the appt. (She was 45 minutes late to that appt but she had to sign some stuff, why, I don't know, that is something I am still going to bring up with Help Me...

What kind of consequences have you found to be effective when dealing with a child with an attachment disorder?
Our 8yr AD slapped a girl at school today. Having her apologize to the girl isn't going to mean anything to our daughter. She simply doesn't seem to care about anyone other than herself....
Consequence for RAD child

What kind of consequence would you recommend for a child with an attachment disorder? Our AD (8) slapped a girl at school today. Making her tell her sorry is a pretty moot point, as she really doesn't care. It won't mean anything to her. :grr:
